Most people mention elections and the country's state of democracy when asked what they are concerned about regarding today's Thai politics, according to the result of an opinion survey by Suan Dusit Poll. The poll was carried out on 1,182 people throughout the country on May 22-26. Asked what they are concerned about regarding present Thai politics, nearly half of the respondents, 49.39%, mentioned elections and the state of democracy in the country; 27.07% smear campaigns, nepotism and corruption; 24.42% political stability; 17.24% disunity among people in the country; and 13.59% protests by various political groups. Regarding the Thai economy, 74.77% of the respondents said they are concerned about the higher cost of living and higher prices of fuel and cooking gas; 31.80% the "trade slump" and lack of liquidity; 24.77% foreign investors' lack of confidence in the Thai economy; 21.48% the government's inability to solve economic problems; and 12.38% the unemployment problem. Regarding social affairs, 39.85% of the respondents are concerned about lack of security in life and property; 35.38% debts and meagre income; 28.72% social disparities between the rich and the poor; 22.48% low morality and selfishness among people; and 21.23% misuse of power by state officials.
